October 2023: We are back!
It was a fun trip (some photos below). Paris was surprisingly crowded, but still fun. We did a few runs among the Tuileries and along the Seine, and had a great brunch at the Cafe de la Pais (highly recommended if you are in Paris on a Sunday). Arles was even more fun. It is easy to see why Van Gogh loved it. Nice has beautiful beaches and a stunning coastline, but was also crowded and surprisingly big (over a million people in the general area). We took an Uber through the alps and spent a day in Monaco. It was interesting, but we learned that, although Uber drops off in Monte Carlo, there is no service back to Nice. We ultimately hired a car service for the return trip. And then off to Amsterdam. There is something amazing about just spending time on the beautiful canals. Very peaceful and serene. The biggest downside was the jet lag. I've been to Europe many times, but the jet lag seems to get worse every year. It might be an age thing. The kids always say "what jet lag?"
